Description
This listing is for one (1) tumbler. I do have 3 more available. This is a very rare small 3 7/8" High 5 ounce juice tumbler. The tumbler is on the far left of the first photo. The other tumblers in the photos are for comparison and not being offered as part of this listing. The other tumblers pictured for comparison are the 5 1/4" High 8 oz footed tumbler and the 6 1/4" high 11 oz footed tumbler. The last 5 photos were taken including a tape measure to help provide as much information as possible.Tea Room Depression Glass was made by Indiana Glass Co from 1926-31 There are several rare pieces in the Tea Room pattern and this is one of the rarest ones. This is the smallest of the 6 know sizes of tumblers and even harder to hind than the 8 oz flat bottom 4 3/16" tumbler.
There are no chips cracks or repairs to this tumbler. This is a pattern with lots of fine points and edges which makes finding mint condition pieces difficult. This tumbler measures approximately 3 7/8" high, 3 3/16" outside top diameter and 2 3/8" diameter across the base from flat side to flat side. From point to point it measures 2 1/2" diagonally across the base. This tumbler is very close to the size of one of the three sugar bowls made for this pattern. It was most likely made From a mold that was modified without handles. The handles on all the sugar bowls in this pattern were made as part of the mold and not attached afterwards like in some patterns. A separate or modified mold would have been required to make this tumbler.
I have collected depression glass since I was very young. Tea Room depression glass has always been a favorite of mine even though after collecting it for 40 plus years I have not managed to find all the pieces.
I was lucky enough to find 12 of these small juice Glass from a collector in Australia. I was only interested in 8 for my collection so I do have 4 available, 3 more after this one. This auction is for one of the 4 available tumblers. If anyone bids and would like the other three that can be arranged.
Please see and enlarge the photos as they are a large part of the description.
