    Description

    Soviet Medal for Combat Service (also known as Medal for Military Merit), #2653316, early post-WW2 issue.
    This is a GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL medal made by the Soviet Mint and officially awarded by the Soviet Government during 1940s, not a replica or a more recent issue!
    The medallion is made in Solid Sterling Silver; measures 32.1 mm wide and weighs 18.8 grams not including the suspension and connecting link.
    The medal was a strictly military award for excellent service during war as well as in time of peace. Some were awarded for service in Afghanistan. This particular specimen however is definitely a 1940s issue. Judging by its serial number it was probably bestowed by an official decree at some point from mid-1945 through late 1946, and actually handed to its recipient in 1946-47. After 1947, all Combat Service medals produced by the Soviet Mint were without a serial number.
    The medal is in VERY FINE to EXCELLENT condition, outstanding for a Soviet soldier's award from 1940s. The obverse shows practically no wear visible to the naked eye; the raised details of the rifle, sword and the lettering are extremely crisp, essentially perfect. There are no edge knocks or bumps. The fragile red paint in the letters is almost completely intact – a very unusual case – and has only a couple of small chips. The reverse of the medallion is practically pristine. Both sides show attractive even patina to silver. The medal comes on an ORIGINAL late-1940s suspension device, a single-layer model is brass.  The ribbon shows age but is extremely well preserved and perfectly clean. The silver connecting link appears to be original, and its ends are still joined with solder.
    This historic medal (not to mention well over half of a Troy ounce of silver) can be a great addition to any collection of Soviet medals and memorabilia.
