    Description

    Handsome fold-out 1953 Amoco road map of Boston and vicinity, printed more than 67 years ago.
    The map opens to 29" x 18" and has great detail on old street and highway alignments, including Route 128, still under construction south of Essex, with cartography by Rand McNally.
    The coverage area extends from Gloucester to Mansfield, including Qunicy, Brockton, Needham, Arlington, Wellesley, Lowell, Lynn, Marblehead, Beverly, and Cambridge.
    There are maps of central Boston and Cape Cod on the reverse side.
    The map was distributed in 1953 by the American Oil Company to promote its Amoco brand. It is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 533916.
    There's a photo on the front cover of the Paul Revere Statue in James Rego Square, Hanover Street at Clark, in Boston's North End.
    There's an Amoco credit card on the back cover.
